CCGS Ready
CCGS Ready ca.1980

The CCGS Ready was an R Class Cutter Search and Rescue vessel built in 1963 for the Canadian Coast Guard.
The Canadian Coast Guard was established in 1962, but there were agencies that existed prior to that time. There have been various federal departments that helped carry out many of the duties the Coast Guard performs today and at one-time the Canadian Navy was responsible for some of these tasks.
Canadian responsibilities such as helping to maintain lighthouses, marine safety, and search and rescue fell to the Coast Guard.
The Canadian Coast Guard is a special operating agency within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans rather than the Canadian Navy and the Departmental of National Defence.
